First-Degree Attempted Murder
Client was charged with first degree attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, circumstances in aggravation, an enhancement for a prior strike conviction, and a five-year prior enhancement. He was facing more than 22 years to life in state prison. The prosecution alleged the client attempted to kill his girlfriend by trying to slam their car into a tree with her in the passenger seat. The girlfriend was available and cooperating with the prosecution. During a strategic thorough investigation, Mr. Wright was able to track down witnesses who exposed her as a vindictive, violent, liar. On the eve of trial, faced with the defense witnesses, the prosecutor agreed to resolve the case for a non-strike offense with probation and no additional custody time. With Mr. Wright’s help, the client avoided a second-strike conviction, prison, and a possible life sentence.
