Mr. Simon was charged with one felony count of criminal threats, which is a serious felony strike, and six felony counts of child abuse. He was facing more than 12 years in state prison.  At the preliminary hearing, Mr. Wright was able to get the criminal threats charge dismissed and all six counts of child abuse reduced to misdemeanors.
