Juvenile Transfer Case—Transfer to Adult Court Prevented
An autistic teenage client was alleged to have stabbed someone he had prior issues with. The prosecution filed a motion to transfer and was aggressively trying to have him tried as an adult. Utilizing his network of experts, Mr. Wright took a holistic approach to defending the client and fighting the transfer motion. After filing an extensive brief opposing the transfer to adult court and setting the case for a hearing on the motion, Mr. Wright got the prosecutor to back down, withdraw the transfer motion, and allow the client to stay in juvenile court. After the charges were adjudicated in juvenile court, the prosecutor aggressively argued to have the client sent to “juvenile prison”. Mr. Wright pushed back hard during an extensive hearing where he called defense experts to testify on the client’s behalf. He convinced the judge the client should not be sent to juvenile prison but instead should receive housing that would provide him with the supportive services he needed and deserved.
